Rev. Marilyn Sargent
Pastor Marilyn grew up in Urbandale, IA, where her parents were active members of the Urbandale United Church of Christ. Following their examples, she, too, learned to live the Gospel by participating in various church opportunities and leadership roles. In 1999, she enrolled in LEARN, the three-year lay education program of the Iowa Conference, United Church of Christ. Two years into the program she felt God’s tug on her heart, urging her into ordained ministry. The fall of 2002 found her at Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, ME. During her time in Maine she spent a year co-pastoring a small congregation in Bangor, and three and a half years at the Monson United Church of Christ, enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.
During her time at Faith, Pastor Marilyn has participated in Local, Regional, and National activities of the United Church of Christ including the Iowa Conference Board of Directors and the NE Iowa Association Committee on Ministry. Her greatest passions include the equality of all of God's children, reaching out to those living on the margins, and protection for some of life's most vulnerable. Some of Pastor Marilyn's greatest joys come from helping bring to fruition the many new outreach opportunities brought forth from the many volunteers of Faith UCC!
